Description

Overview

At the heart of the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique, on one of the most spectacular tidal estuaries, in a wildlife conservation area, next to the Indian ocean, lies the secluded Dugong Beach Lodge. Located in a 30 000 ha conservation protected area on the San Sebastian peninsula this exclusive resort lies 20km south east across the bay from the town of Vilankulo.

Surrounded by a rich mosaic of wetlands, mangrove swamps, coral reefs, small islands, tidal mud flats, salt marshes, fresh water lakes, estuaries, and tree and shrub forests alongside coastal dunes, tree savanna and Miombo woodlands, this resort offers a unique experience to wildlife enthusiasts, fishermen, bird watchers, divers and water sport enthusiasts or those who simply want to relax, unwind and rejuvenate their soul.

Dugong Lodge Accommodation

The Lodge offers 12 luxuriously appointed, air-conditioned chalets with direct access to the beach via individual walkways. There are also 2 Villas, each Villa has 2 bedrooms and a plunge pool. All rooms have Bathrooms overlooking a private courtyard and have outdoor shower. Each chalet is sea facing and has a private deck furnished with day beds for relaxation or wellness treatments and where private dinners can be enjoyed. There is an interflowing swimming pool with an island-style bar and martini seats with spectacular views of the ocean.

In-Room facilities: Hair-Drier, Guest Amenities, Fans, Mosquito Nets & Private Patio, Ceiling Fan, Air Conditioning, Telephone, Mini Bar, Mini Safe, Tea/Coffee Facilities and Mosquito Repellent.

Weather

The Bazaruto Archipelago can be visited at any time of the year. Typically, clear skies, warm temperatures and sunny days create the perfect tropical weather all year round.

Between November and February, temperatures can be in the 30’s and the prevailing wind is from the North East which can provide relief from the heat especially in the evenings. If you don’t mind a few showers and humidity, you can visit during the rainy season, between December and February. If you’d prefer to stay dry and laze on the golden beaches, June and September are the best months. During March and April the winds are lighter and the temperatures are more moderate which makes this a good time to visit especially if you enjoy deep sea fishing.

Transfers to the Resort

If you arrive by air, we will fetch you from the Vilankulo airport and transfer you to the resort by boat.

If you arrive by car, please go to the Donna Ana Hotel in Vilankulo where you can safely store your vehicle, relax and even have a drink or meal at their pool bar. We will fetch you from there and transfer you to the resort by boat.

The boat ride to the resort takes about 40 minutes depending on the tides. At low tide, we have to navigate the numerous sand banks that become exposed which can make the trip a bit longer.

Please note that you may have to wade out to the boat so get into the island spirit and roll up your trousers or ask one of our helpful staff to give you a piggy back.
